Movie Sonic Will Be Getting A Redesign
Remember that strange, gawky-looking Sonic the Hedgehog that appeared in a trailer for his own feature film two days ago? Uhh, just forget about that! They were just kidding, ha ha! The REAL design will be unveiled LATER, yeah, that’s it! Come back later! Ha ha!
In the face of massive blowback following the official release of Sonic the Hedgehog’s first movie trailer, the makers of the film have done an about-face on that face, with its separated eyeballs and its human incisors. Jeff Fowler, the picture’s director, tweeted “The message is loud and clear. You aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be.”
If Sega and Paramount are only just now realizing there’s a problem, they have only themselves to blame. This design was leaked months ago, first as a shadow and then as a promotional image, and it didn’t receive a positive response on the social medias then either. Instead the team ignored the comments, and now it’s too late — the original trailer is out there, Coolio and all.
With the November release date looming, not a lot of time is left to re-render every single scene Sonic appears in. Let’s hope the redesign is a lot closer to the game version — which is possible to do while retaining the current style, as this fan “correction” by Sucker Punch artist Edward Pun proves:
