MMO Starborne Releases Dissidence Update
Developer Solid Clouds has been running its MMORTS Starborne in open beta for the last six months. Last weekend the first major content update, subtitled Dissidence, hit the servers.
Starborne is slower-paced than most other real-time strategy games, especially those with online elements. Accoding to Solid Clouds each server hosts a game that takes place over the course of eight weeks. A lot of that time is spent gathering your army, preparing for battle, and coming up with strategies…the game rises to a climactic battle in the closing weeks. Success depends on preparation!
Here’s what’s been added:
– Special hex effects: Hexes on the map which afford strategic benefits to your entire empire or your whole alliance and sector, when held.
– Overhauled Rankings: A complete rework of many UI panels within the game, with a focus on exposing more metrics for players to measure themselves against.
– Updated Alliance Panels: Continuation of the UI rework. Many quality of life improvements for alliance management, organization and planning for leaders and members alike.
– Streamlined Victory: A single victory condition. All players on a server compete for the same victory goal. Capturing as many victory point hexes as they can on the map.
– Sector Warfare: All players spawn into one of three starting sectors. These large teams will have to overcome their internal politics and strive for victory together, against the other two sectors!
The open Starborne beta is currently available at https://starborne.com. You must sign up to receive a copy, but the beta version is currently free.
