Mike Bithell unveils Volume
Mike Bithell, the creator of indie hit Thomas Was Alone, has unveiled his new game Volume. Described as a cross between Metal Gear and Minecraft, Volume is a stealth game which has a large emphasis on level creation and user content.
The basic idea of the game is the general stealth affair, avoiding guards and stealing items across hundreds of environments; however the more interesting side of the game are the Remixes. All the areas which ship with the game can be edited and the simple toolset allows for new levels to be created effortlessly. Bithell has said that he hopes the community will keep creating content for years after the games release.
Players will be unable to kill in the game, but will be able to “use their Ricochet to control enemies” which according to Mike Bithell results in a very fast paced smart action game.
The official word is that the game has been in development for 7 months, but Mike mentioned to me at Rezzed last year (over 12 months ago) that he had ideas for a stealth game he would love to make. These ideas must have transformed into what will become Volume.
Expect a lot of new details to appear over the coming months about Volume, and the game will be playable at this year’s Eurogamer Expo so be sure to check back once we have managed to go hands on with the game.
