Mickey Mouse Is Doing His Own Version Of ‘Home Alone’

The merging of Disney and 20th Century Studios, now nearly a decade old, has led to this ultimate moment of synergy: Mickey Mouse’s own version of Home Alone. The special is currently being animated in CG for a debut on Disney Junior during the 2026 holiday season.

And yes, we mean it’s literally “Mickey’s Home Alone.” We don’t see how it works either. For one thing, Mickey is a full-grown rodent and the story has to be centered around a kid, because it’s not unusual for an adult to live alone for any period of time. Second, Mickey isn’t the type to throw bricks at people even if they are burglars, nor is he really the type to booby trap his house, nor is he even the type to wish his family would disappear. How can this possibly be a thing?

Maybe Disney’s official synopsis holds the answer…

Mickey can’t wait to spend Christmas at home. His plans take a turn when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace. In the morning rush to make it out the door, Mickey and Pluto are left behind and home alone. While Mickey and Pluto must protect their home from two feisty villains, a raccoon and a weasel who are after their Christmas dinner, Minnie and the gang desperately try to make their way back home to Mickey.

So he planned to be home from the beginning? It’s not as big a problem, you see. We’re still not convinced it works. Suppose these Mickey-fied versions of offbeat Christmas classics keep happening. Mickey’s Die Hard next year should be interesting.

Mickey’s Home Alone is produced by Wild Canary in association with Disney Jr. The special is executive-produced by Tom Rogers and co-executive produced by Rachel Ruderman, with veteran animator, character designer and visdev artist Shane Prigmore as director, who developed Tangled: Before Ever After and Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure for Disney TV.

It’s too early to predict the precise date when Mickey’s Home Alone will air on Disney Junior, but it will show up on Disney+ the next day.
