Massive Splatoon Update Coming Next Week

Say what you will about how much content Splatoon had when it first released at the end of May, but in the months since, the game has been firing on all cylinders with new maps, gear, and mods, all for free! Now, Nintendo has announced in a statement a new, massive Splatoon update that will see the game’s content essentially double.

First up, there will be new level caps via this update. You’ll now be able to reach level 50 as an Inkling, and levels S and S+ in Ranked Battle mode. Also, there will be 40 pieces of new gear for you to wear, and two new weapons classes. The first is a weapon called the Slosher, which is a bucket kind of weapon where you can literally throw the paint around. Then, there’s the minigun Splatling weapon! Don’t think I need to explain that one!

However, the no doubt the biggest part of these updates is the new matchmaking modes: Squad Battle and Private Battle. In Squad Battle, you’ll finally be able to play alongside friends in Ranked Battles. The twist though is you don’t need four friends, you can do it with one or two. Then, in Private Battles, you can customize how you want to play with your fellow Inklings in modes of your choosing! 1v1, 2v2, 1v3, 1v4! And so on and so forth. It’s fully customizable.

The update will happen on August 5th for the US, and August 6th for Europe and Australia. The best part? Nintendo has teased that more new free content will follow for Splatoon.
