Marvel’s Avengers: Game Overview Video
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics just released a big new video revealing new information about Marvel’s Avengers, the adventure game coming to Playstation 4, XBox One and PC.
First off, even though these Avengers resemble their movie counterparts, they aren’t. The game uses a wholly original story in a Marvel Universe not shared by any film or comic. In this world, an explosion that killed millions came to be known as “A-Day” because the Avengers took the blame. Disgraced, the team soon disbanded, and a tech entrepreneur attempted to fill their shoes with superpowered robots. But, as you might guess, that’s not going well.
The world needs Avengers again, and your task in the Story Mode is to reunite the former members and win back some of the glory they lost. Starting as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), you gradually track down the heroes and convince them to join you. Then you handle crises around the world from your makeshift underground headquarters.
From there, you’ll complete many missions, which fall under two categories: Hero Missions, single-player excursions that are part of the storyline, and Warzone Missions, which can be played with up to four players (but can also be played solo as well). Previously, Square stated the game would be multiplayer only, so this is welcome news.
The story of Marvel’s Avengers spans several years’ worth of time, but it doesn’t fall into our hands until May 15, 2020. There will be a beta test sometime before then, exclusively for PS4 users (what makes them so special anyway?)
