Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond: Fans Turn Disaster into Delight

-

“Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond” is the fan project we never knew we needed but are so glad we got. It’s the work of 40 passionate fans, spearheaded by Maximilian Dood, a YouTube content creator known for his epic fighting game gameplay videos and his famous “Marvel vs. Capcom 3” combos tutorial series called “Assist Me.” They were like, “We can fix this.”

Remember “Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite” from 2017? It was supposed to be the next big thing for the series, but instead, it became the franchise’s biggest letdown. They went all realistic with the graphics, which just didn’t cut it. And let’s not even start on Chun-Li – they made her look like she got hit with the ugly stick.

The game changed the beloved 3 vs. 3 battles from “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3” to 2 vs. 2, which felt like a downgrade. On top of that, they decided to ditch the X-Men in favor of MCU characters because Disney hadn’t bought out Fox yet, meaning no Wolverine or Cyclops in sight.

But here’s where it gets interesting. The “Infinite & Beyond” team, with Dood’s leadership and his $30,000 investment, decided to do what Capcom and Marvel couldn’t or didn’t. They’ve completely overhauled the visuals with a cel-shaded style that pops right off the screen, giving the game the comic book look fans have always loved.

They didn’t just stop at the visuals; they’ve expanded gameplay with new modes like 4 vs. 4, bringing back the mayhem that made the series famous. Although the base roster is the same as “Infinite”, they’ve introduced special costumes that turn characters into almost entirely new personas. Take Spider-Man, for example; now you can play as him with a Miles Morales or Spider-Punk getup.

What’s really exciting is that this team has history with modding. They’ve already made DLC characters for “Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3”, so there’s a good chance they could expand the roster here too – if Disney and Capcom don’t step in with a cease and desist. But since this whole thing is free, it’s like a big “let’s see how this goes” experiment.

This isn’t just some mod; it’s a free game you can download if you own “Infinite”. It’s a testament to what fan dedication can achieve, turning what was once a disaster into something fans are eager to play again. “Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond” is proof that even when a game seems down for the count, the community can rally and bring it back with a vengeance.
