Marvel Television and Netflix officially announced some new cast members for the upcoming second season of Luke Cage, which is due out next year. Mustafa Shakir (The Night Of, The Deuce) and Gabrielle Dennis (Insecure, Rosewood) have now joined the cast for the new season.
Shakir will portray the role of John McIver, a charismatic leader who has a mission involving Harlem and vengeance. Dennis will play Tilda Johnson, a brilliant holistic doctor who has a complicated back story involving Harlem, where trouble always seems to find her no matter what she does.
Speaking on the news in a press release, executive producer Jeph Loeb stated, “Mustafa’s incredible presence and power ignited us from our first meeting, and Gabrielle brings the charm and smarts to a very complicated role. Both will be wonderful additions to our already magnificent cast.”
Cheo Hodari Coker added, “I can’t wait for audiences to see the compelling paces we put both Mustafa and Gabrielle through. From the moment you see each of them on screen, I feel they will be powerful additions to the world of Marvel and Harlem’s Luke Cage.”
Shakir and Dennis join the cast alongside returning cast members Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and Theo Rossi as Shades. The first season of Luke Cage is available now on Netflix. Season 2 will debut on the streaming service later in 2018.
