After an absence of 20 years, Kim Wu is returning to the tournament for the third season update to Microsoft’s take on Killer Instinct, Rare’s entry in the 1990’s fighting genre.
The new Killer Instinct was greeted with yawns by the hardcore gaming public when it was first introduced with the initial wave of XBox One games — despite the fact that it was beloved by those same gamers on the SNES and that it was also free. People had grown to distrust whatever a Rare character was doing on a Microsoft console (despite this, the new Killer Instinct is not made by Rare).
Those who have stuck with the new Killer Instinct over the years, however, have been rewarded. As its roster has grown and its fighting mechanics have become more balanced, its cult fanbase has declared it a darn good fighter — enough people for Microsoft to hold an official Killer Instinct World Cup in San Antonio.
It was during this World Cup event that the Kim Wu trailer was revealed. Kim is a self-described “martial artist, design student and demon ass-kicker.” She’s got a friggin’ dragon! (And it’ll leave her pretty soon if she doesn’t shut up….)
There are, of course, bigger implications in this video than just Kim. Is that Arbiter from Halo….?
