Kaiju No 8 To Be Streamed Live Alongside Japanese Debut on Crunchyroll

The global premiere of Kaiju No 8 on Crunchyroll, and will stream simultaneously with Japan. When can you watch this Production I.G anime?

Crunchyroll has a lot of new shows coming this month (as we’ve covered) but the noisiest of them is Kaiju No 8. Based on the hit manga created by Naoya Matsumoto, it’s the most anticipated anime so far this year. But you won’t have to wait for the Japanese airing to trickle out to the rest of the world…all of Earth will be getting it at the same time!

For the first time ever, Crunchyroll is hosting a live streaming of a new anime each week at the exact time it airs in Japan (which would be 8:30 AM Pacific, 11:30 AM Eastern for American readers). There will be no delay whatsoever to Kaiju No. 8…to see it first, all you have to do is wake up early enough. The show will be streamed live in over 200 countries around the world.

In a world where kaiju are constantly emerging and causing chaos, civilization’s most vital organization are the members of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. It’s Kafka Hibino’s biggest dream to join the force, but he’s failed every entry test he’s taken. He just doesn’t have the physical chops, until that fateful day he runs into a lone Kaiju, who merges with his body. Now he has the moves to ace the test and become the AKDF’s most valuable member, unless they learn his secret.

Kaiju No. 8 is animated by Production I.G (PSYCHO-PASS; GHOST IN THE SHELL) with kaiju artwork and design supervision by Studio Khara (Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition, Shin Godzilla (Pre Visualization Development)). The series is being directed by Shigeyuki Miya (director and character designer of Onihei; director of The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior) and Tomomi Kamiya (Yotsuiro Biyori). The series composition and screenplay were written by Ichiro Okouchi (Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury; story draft and series composition on Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion).

Check out Kaiju No. 8 on Saturday, April 13 and come back each week for more. Dubs will obviously not be ready at the same time, but when they are, the English version should sound like this…

I'm thrilled about this simultaneous streaming! It's like Crunchyroll is acknowledging the global fanbase and giving us the VIP treatment. No more feeling left out while our friends in Japan enjoy all the action. Plus, the premise of Kaiju No. 8 sounds intriguing – a blend of monster battles and human drama.
