Jurassic World Reigns Supreme at Box Office
For the third week in a row, Jurassic World remained No.1 at the box office, fending off both Inside Out (more on that soon) and the release of Ted 2 according to Rentrak. Of the three, Ted 2 was the most surprising, as it only made 32.9 million dollars. Why is that “bad”? Well, the original in its opening weekend did $54 million, setting a record in the process as the highest grossing “R” rated movie in its opening weekend. The sequel was believed to do similar earnings, if not more. Apparently, fans didn’t like it as much as the original. Jurassic World brought in $54.2 million, more or less half of what it did last weekend. The movie has now grossed over $500 million domestically.
As for Inside Out, it was very close to taking No.1 at the box office, making a very respectable $52.1 million. The dropoff wasn’t as big as some might have expected, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it managed to finally take the No.1 spot next week if all goes well. Then again, with the box office, you never know.
In the meantime, it’s going to be interesting to see just how much money Jurassic World rakes in as the weeks go on. This is one monster of a movie that just doesn’t want to stop pleasing the crowds.
