Jared Leto Talks Joker Role

Easily one of the most anticipated parts of the upcoming Suicide Squad is Jared Leto’s turn at being Joker. In the trailer we got a glimpse at what we can expect, and according to Leto in an interview with Empire magazine, it’s going to be something different, and he went dark to make sure he was in the right mindset to do this role:

“There was definitely a period of…detachment,” Leto said. “I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t image doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick-hole.”

“I always get the sense that the Joker may be much older than people think,” Leto explained. It’s something different. If you don’t break rules, you’re not going to strike new ground.”

Many have noted that he stayed in character while on set of Suicide Squad, when asked about how long he’d be “cooling down” from doing the role, Leto replied:

“I think I’ll be cooling down for the rest of my life.”

Suicide Squad will be the second DC movie coming out next year after Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
