Is Remedy Developing a New Alan Wake?
Fans have wanted to see some sort of follow-up to Remedy Entertainment’s acclaimed Alan Wake for quite some time. However, a user on NeoGAF has uncovered a hint at would be the long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake. On the European Trademark Database, a trademark was discovered for the title Alan Wake’s Return. According to the entry, it was filed by Remedy Entertainment on February 23 of this year. This could be the hope that gamers have wanted for years that a follow-up is on the horizon. Perhaps Alan Wake Returns is a possible title or at least working title for the game.
The same user also discovered that the website alanwakereturns.com was also registered in 2015 by the same proxy as other domains owned by Remedy. It was also noted that the end of the second DLC for Alan Wake had a bit of an Easter egg. In the DLC, the protagonist Alan is writing a book that has the name “Return” on the cover page for the manuscript.
Keep in mind, this is not an official confirmation or an announcement of a new game. In addition, Remedy filing for a new trademark doesn’t necessarily mean a sequel to the game is happening. It could just mean that Remedy wants to buy trademarks that are associated or related to one of their notable titles.
At least with news like this there is hope for Alan Wake fans. In the past, Remedy Entertainment Creative Director Sam Lake has never completely closed the door on Alan Wake. The company has been focusing on the last several years on launching a big crossover transmedia franchise in Quantum Break, which would have a major AAA game release and TV show to go along with it. Quantum Break is due out on April 5 for Xbox One and Windows PC.
