Slowly but surely, Nintendo is correcting some of the errors it made in the Switch’s first few months. We’ve been promised cloud saving storage is on the way, and now comes word of a method of playing the machine while charging it at the same time. To illustrate the problem: What if you want to use the Switch AND charge it while resting it on its kickstand? Impossible — the charge port is built into the BOTTOM of the unit.
There were third-party solutions to this, but a recent software update actually made those devices malfunction. Nintendo just shrugged and said “That’s what you get for not using a licensed product — we ain’t responsible.” The fact that they were about to come out with their own solution is a bit suspect now, but at least it’s cheap.
Yup, compared to the obscene asking price for the charging cradle that comes with the system (just wait’ll yours breaks), the Nintendo Switch Adjustable Charging Kickstand is easy to swallow at an affordable $19.99. Of course, it has no HDMI port so it’s not an actual substitute for the cradle. But it will solve the problem of playing in handheld mode and charging at once.
Plus, it’s adjustable, as it says on the box. You can change the viewing angle based on your personal preference, something you couldn’t do with the third-party devices. The stand will be out in July.
