Introducing Mega Man Pixel Tactics

Pixel Tactics is a card game whose mechanics resemble strategy video games, and the art style (pixels, naturally) is meant to reference this. With Pixel Tactics you can play strategy RPGs without electricity, and now a popular character from the world of video games itself is joining the act.

A special Mega Man-themed Pixel Tactics deck is under development and currently asking for Kickstarter donations. Two sets are in the works: Mega Man Blue and Proto Man Red, each containing 28 characters from the Mega Man series. Here’s how to play:

Pixel Tactics is a head-to-head game of tactical combat for two players. Each player has an identical deck of 25 cards, from which they draft a leader. The leader’s abilities alter vastly the strategy and playability of every other card in the deck, making the game playable in 25 different ways.

In the game, players take turns placing cards and attacking. Each card can activate in various ways, taking on offensive capabilities in the front rows of the unit, or support powers in the back rows. Cards can also be played as orders – powerful single-time effects that can turn the tide of battle.

Play continues until either player’s leader is defeated. A typical game is best of three or five rounds.

A $20 pledge gets you one of the sets, and a $35 pledge gets you both. And since all Pixel Tactics cards are compatible with each other, you can start mixing Mega Man characters into any game. Mega Man Pixel Tactics has already doubled its original funding goal, but it’s still open with 19 days to go as of this writing.
