“I am Here” is a 2023 Korean movie, categorized as Action, Thriller, and Crime; streaming on Viki and Tubi TV.
- Memorable Quote: “A lung transplant patient shouldn’t be out in the field.”
SUMMARY: A relentless detective is hunting a murder suspect. As the cat-and-mouse chase intensifies, both men confront their inner demons. Somehow they’re connected through a killer’s donor organs.
♦ Is Cellular Memory Real?
In “I am Here”, a determined homicide detective and a murder suspect have motives that are far more complex than they initially appear. The film opens with the brutal killing of a young woman. This case immediately draws the attention of veteran detective Seon Doo. The detective identifies Kyu Jong as the prime suspect. What begins as a routine manhunt soon spirals into a psychological battle that blurs the line between hunter and hunted.
People know Kyu Jong as polite, and he is a well-mannered young man. But his sudden transformation into a killer shocks everyone, especially his father. Even so, when the police come to question the father, he feigns ignorance regarding his son’s whereabouts. When the police leave, the father tries to help his son escape. The police didn’t believe the father, so they waited near the home until they saw the young man come out. Then they started chasing after him.
But Kyu Jong wasn’t going to be taken in easily. Kyu Jong and Seon Doo got into a fight. Seon Doo tried to subdue him, but in the end, Kyu Jong got away. Seon Doo was beaten so badly that he had to be taken to the hospital. The doctor treating him scolded his partner, Yeong Jo, because Seon Doo was recovering from surgery. “A lung transplant patient shouldn’t be out in the field.”
- A person who had a lung transplant should probably be working a desk job. But what about a person who had a heart transplant? Should they be killing people? (O.o)
Kyu Jong had received a heart transplant. The donor was a murderer previously arrested by Detective Seon Doo. Kyu Jong started exhibiting violent tendencies right after the operation, and his behavior aligns disturbingly with the donor’s past crimes. However, it’s a small world. Seon Doo’s lung transplant was from the same donor. Both men experienced emotional and behavioral changes after their surgeries. Some theorize that violence can be inherited through transplanted memory.
Seon Doo is a detective, not a psychic or a psychiatrist. He’s not trying to psychoanalyze the guy. He just wants to catch a violent criminal and get him off the streets. As he investigates further, Seon Doo uncovers fragments of Kyu Jong’s past, broken relationships, unresolved trauma, and a pattern of violence that may be tied to more than one crime. It appears he’s a serial killer.
- But is Kyu Jong killing because of his own psyche, or because the donor’s “cellular memory” is influencing him?

Where to Watch: Viki and Tubi TV
Viewership and Rating:
- IMDb: 4.4 out of 10 stars
- My Drama List: 6.7 out of 10 stars
- Viki viewers rated the film: 8.1 out of 10 stars
My personal rating is 7 out of 10 stars.
“I am Here” is YAMASK (Yet Another Movie About Serial Killers). The IMDb rating is incredibly low, but the movie is not even 2 hours. I couldn’t go as low as IMDb but not as high as Viki. It’s about a serial killer. So you watch it for no other reason than to make sure the killer gets caught!
