Hulu Brings Back Futurama For New Episodes July 24
Fun on a bun! Hulu first announced they were producing new episodes of Futurama in February of last year. The typical incubation period for an animated series is about two years, but we suppose a lot of things were set up already, as we’ve just learned the first ten episodes will premiere in the VERY near World of Tomorrow — July 24. The episodes will be released one at a time on a weekly basis.
Even though the series is set in the 31st century, episodes of Futurama tended to touch on whatever was going on in this world at the current time, and it looks like the tradition will continue with “the future of vaccines, bitcoin, cancel culture and streaming TV” mentioned as plotlines. Hulu also says “long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the mysterious contents of Nibbler’s litter box, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles.”
The show has been resurrected once before, of course — half its current library comes from Comedy Central, who produced two seasons (or four, depending if you go by production or broadcast numbering) and four TV movies. Not everyone is a fan of the CC seasons; a lot of folks feel the majority of those episodes feel like they’re lacking the same spark from the Fox years. Can Bender get his groove back? Now’s the time to find out!
The entire original voice cast has returned, and yes, that includes John DiMaggio, who you might have heard last year was withholding his voice in hopes for a bigger paycheck. The below trailer is unmistakably John, so he must have gotten it, right? …Not really. 20th Century wouldn’t budge and he ultimately buckled.
Check out the small teaser Hulu provided, and wish on a seven-leaf clover for July to get here faster.
