SUMMARY: A dentist tries to rebuild her life in a seaside village, where she meets a warm-hearted handyman. As their romance blossoms, both must confront past wounds. They learn to heal with the support of their tight-knit community.
“Hometown Cha Cha Cha” follows Yoon Hye Jin, a sharp, ambitious city dentist who unexpectedly finds herself starting over in a small coastal town. The seaside village is exactly what you’d imagine — the sound of waves rolling in, a bustling market filled with familiar faces, a lighthouse watching over the shore, and residents who take life at an easy, unhurried pace.
What begins as a brief visit turns into something much bigger when Yoon Hye Jin opens a dental clinic and tries to adapt to a community that operates nothing like the fast-paced city she’s used to. What she thought would be temporary slowly becomes the start of an entirely new chapter in her life.
In the village, she immediately encounters Hong Du-Sik — known to everyone as “Chief Hong”. He’s a warm, endlessly helpful jack-of-all-trades who seems to be involved in every aspect of village life. You should see the number of business cards he has in his wallet. It’s like: “You can call me for this, or you can call me for that. Even if I don’t officially offer the service, I can probably still do the job!”
Yoon Hye-Jin’s initial reaction is: “Is it even possible for a person to have that many jobs??” Her polished, practical personality instantly clashes with Hong Du-Sik’s easygoing, people-first approach. But she soon realizes that almost everything she needs to get settled in this hometown requires her to call Chief Hong for assistance. He literally fixes everything!
Chief Hong is the village’s unofficial everything guy (jack of all trades) — handyman, problem-solver, errand-runner, and emotional support human all rolled into one. He’s laid-back, outdoorsy, and deeply connected to the village and its people. On the surface, he seems carefree, but he’s thoughtful, observant, and always the first to show up when someone needs help. He’s the kind of person who makes small-town life feel warm and safe.
Yoon Hye-Jin is a polished, big-city dentist who suddenly finds herself starting over in a tiny seaside village. She’s smart, organized, and a little too honest for her own good. Her city habits don’t exactly blend smoothly with the village’s slower pace, and her straightforward personality sometimes rubs people the wrong way. But underneath the cool exterior, she’s caring, hardworking, and trying her best to rebuild her life. She may be from the big city, but she’ll soon discover that she has a small-town heart.
When Yoon Hye-Jin arrives in the village, she and Chief Hong clash almost immediately. She thinks he’s too relaxed and unpredictable; he thinks she’s too rigid and high maintenance. Their conversations are full of misunderstandings and eye rolling. However, as they spend more time together (It’s not like she can avoid him; he fixes everything!), the constant encounters lead to their differences slowly starting to balance each other out.
Little by little, their emotional walls come down. What starts as friction turns into frenemies and then into friendship, and slowly grows into something deeper. It’s a genuinely sweet, syrupy love story. Adding flavor to their story are the residents of the village — from elders to shopkeepers to teenagers. Each villager brings their own humor, heart, and personal stories, creating a sense of community that becomes central to the hometown’s cha cha cha charming appeal.
My personal rating is the same as MDL.
