There has been a lot of hype surrounding Disney+ and the Marvel shows being developed for it, but Disney revealed today it is not abandoning Marvel content for the Hulu platform (and why would they, they own 60% of the company). Currently the streaming service runs Runaways, but that show will soon be joined by a certain flaming skull-head on a motorcycle.
Next year Ghost Rider will be starring in his own Hulu series. The press release describes the character as “consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Robbie Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.” Sounds on point.
This will be the third Hollywood incarnation of Ghost Rider….or maybe the second again. The character is being played by Gabriel Luna, the same actor who played him when he appeared on an arc of ABC’s Agents Of SHIELD. Does that mean this show is connected to SHIELD, or not? We don’t know yet.
Whether or not Ghost Rider is a spinoff, it will arrive with a spinoff of its own. Around the same time, Helstrom will also appear on Hulu. “Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer,” says the official description. “The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity, each with their attitude and skills.” Daimon Helstrom, as that demonic-sounding name would suggest, is connected to Ghost Rider in the comics.
Look for Ghost Rider and Helstrom on Hulu in 2020.
