Freaky Helmet From The Aquaman Movie Now Purchasable
Currently WB is throwing all its marketing muscle behind Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods, one of the last DC pictures made under the old rules of “throw anything at the wall and see what sticks.” It’s not the LAST of these though — Aquaman 2 is still going to be a thing, and it comes out later this year.
The first Aquaman did well for WB, enough that merchandise from the first film is still being introduced in the shadow of the second. One of the weirdest examples we’ve seen just crossed our desk this morning: a replica of Black Manta’s bug-eyed helmet, from Factory Entertainment.
This is an approximation of the helmet the villainous Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) shoved over his head in the feature. The eyes light up and it makes “authentic sound effects” from the Aquaman movie. What use does it serve? Barring the collapse of society and the necessity of wearing a light-up helmet to conceal your identity as you fight crime, not much. It just hangs around on your shelf, giant eyes piercing into your soul.
“Aquaman became the highest grossing DC Comics film of all time for good reason,” says Jordan Schwartz, President and CEO of Factory Entertainment. “Part of its success was doubtless due to the gorgeous production design, including the amazing costumes, which remained faithful to, while subtly updating, the look established in the comics. One of the most memorable costumes was Black Manta’s battle suit, with its iconic helmet. As Aquaman prepares to return to the screen in 2023, we are thrilled to have been able to work with Warner Brothers to bring a replica of Black Manta’s helmet to collectors.”
Factory Ent. will only make 250 of these, and if you have to ask how much they cost, you probably aren’t the type for it. This is for rich nerds ONLY. If you do somehow have the cash, the helmets are available to order now through their website, but please, consider giving the money to some kind of charity first.
