Dean McCoppin is a character in the 1999 animated film The Iron Giant, voiced by Harry Connick Jr. He is a beatnik junk artist living on the outskirts of Rockwell, Maine.
Dean creates sculptures from scrap metal in his junkyard workshop. When Hogarth needs a place to hide the Giant, Dean reluctantly agrees, recognizing that the Giant could be melted down or destroyed if the government finds him. Dean"s junkyard provides the Giant with a steady supply of metal to eat.
Dean also serves as a father figure for Hogarth, whose own father is absent, and develops a romantic relationship with Hogarth"s mother Annie over the course of the film.
