You know what's sad about American food?

That we, Americans, don't have the variety in fresh food as in other, poorer, countries.

I'm watching Food Network right now with Tony Bourdain (his Cook's Tour) and my god the market he was showing in Morocco puts any I've seen in the US (Seattle, Boston, Vancouver [BC], my own area, San Fran, LA) to shame.

The variety, the colors, my god it was gorgeous. I can't think of the last time I saw fruits and veggies that bright and colorful other then when I used to grow my own and even then... the Morocco market colors put my own veggies to shame.

But what's really sad is that people think that canned, frozen and other processed food is the norm while fresh food, made from scratch, is gourmet!

i also hate how all the "good" resturants are only considered such because they offer a large volume of food. who cares how much food you offer? >_> i only care about how good it tastes.. i can't eat the amount of food that they dish out newayz.. and i absolutely hate leftovers -_- (plus i hate carrying it around for the rest of the night) .. just use the extra money you have from the food i didn't eat.. and make the food you do make taste better *sigh* ... that and maybe we wouldn't be such an obese country if they changed that XD

I guess I'm lucky on both fronts. From April to November, I do nearly all my shopping at the Ithaca Farmer's Market, and the restaurants around here are pretty much focused on quality over quantity (though with some, you get both, and since I don't mind leftovers, I appreciate getting lunch the next day).

The farmer's market here is freakin' amazing, and it's one of my favorite things about living where I do.

I am a vegetarian and I mainly buy from Farmers Markets, fresh vegetables are always on the table every day. It's very hard for me to purchase prepared foods because of the use of animal rendered fats and broths. But honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. I'd rather cook every day of the week than eat that anyways. And I am very happy that fast food joints don't offer vegetarian options (besides Burger King, but I never eat there) so it makes it all the less tempting. That's the problem with today's society, it's very hard for working America to sit down and cook a wonderful meal with fresh veggies and such because of the vast amount of accessible of Fast foods and already prepared meals and also the lack of time and $ to prepare them with the cost of living these days.

Fast food is for when you're on the run, and know you'll be going the rest of the day if not the next day or two without any food. If you need a quick bite I guess fastfood wouldn't be that bad but if you have the time to cook dinner and lunch at home healthy-like and stuff, do it! Like isnt that why they call it fast food? You only eat it because you need food really fast in large cheap quantities. If you're at work and on a lunch break i prefer subway if you do decide to eat out...

home grilled turkey burgers(with the toppings) sure do beat the hell out of bigmacs if you have the time.

<3333333333333 I never knew who the man was until I saw him on the American Food Network when I went to see Faiz in December. And I love him.

(his Cook's Tour)

You mean "No Reservations"? I watched that whenever I could catch it in the States. We don't have that show here. :disappoin

I KNOW!!! WHAT THE EFF!! One day, I was in the school cafeteria (which had a makeover during Christmas holidays...they hired a student chef freshly graduated from the college I'm going to attend next september to make fresh meals) one day, and one of the entrees was Mushroom Soup. Now, this was home made soup...you could tell with all the black slivers of mushroom in it, and the colouring of the cream.
And two girls were eyeing it and they were like, " What is that?" And the chef was like, " Cream of Mushroom Soup." and they were like, " ...wow...I've never seen it look like that before." and ordered a burger.

People don't know what real food is supposed to look like anymore, and it makes me sad.

I think it's our right to like TV dinners.

UGH!!!! SICK!!!! I have only found one frozen dinner I actually find tastey, and that is the "President's Choice" Indian meals, ex: butter chicken, chicken korma, tikka masala, rogan josh, etc.

The rest taste like nasty carboard.

Take your Hungry Man dinners and trash them, Vash!!!

No.

But I do have better taste in foods, believe it or not. My mom knows how to make a mean marinated chicken breast and I love a decent garden salad.
