Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago Released For Steam

Indie developer 14 Hours Productions has released a charming little throwback title to Steam today. Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is what they call an “idle RPG” — meaning you’re in an overseer position where you can make decisions, but you can’t truly control what your characters do. Perhaps the term “pet sim” will be more familiar….the Tamagotchi of the late 90s was an idle RPG, and this has a lot of intentional similarities. Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is kind of a blend between those digital pets of old and the Dragon Quest games. You’re a queen fairy who needs to raise an army to defeat her nemesis, the Frog Lord. The raising of this army will be literal, as you hatch elves from eggs and raise them to adulthood, feeding them a nutritious diet and teaching them how to fight. The game runs when you’re not around, using your PC’s internal clock to judge the time since your last play. Using this system, you can queue up tasks

This game is such a delightful throwback! As someone who grew up with both Tamagotchis and the original Dragon Quest games, Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago hits all the right nostalgia buttons. The art style, reminiscent of the Game Boy, really adds to the charm. I do wish there was a literal Game Boy version, though. Imagine carrying this around in a classic handheld! But hey, at least the Steam Deck makes it somewhat portable. Can't wait to dive deeper and see what adventures await my elf army!

I’m not usually into hardcore gaming, but Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is perfect for my pace. The idle gameplay means I don’t have to be constantly active, and I can still feel a sense of achievement as my elves grow and complete quests. It’s great for unwinding after work or during breaks. Plus, the Game Boy-inspired graphics are adorable. It’s a fun, low-stress way to enjoy some gaming without feeling overwhelmed. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a chill gaming experience.

I was skeptical about an idle RPG, but Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago surprised me. The depth of training and questing mechanics adds a lot more strategy than I expected. Balancing strength, dexterity, and intelligence in my elves to prepare them for different challenges requires thoughtful planning. It’s a unique twist on the RPG genre, blending the simplicity of pet sims with more complex game elements. I’m curious to see how far I can push my elf army and what kind of endgame content there is.

Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago? Hmm, this idle RPG concept sounds interesting. I don't have a ton of free time for gaming, so the ability to play at my own pace and have the game progress even when I'm not actively engaged is a plus. The Tamagotchi-style caretaking might be a bit too high maintenance for me though. I wonder if there's a way to automate some of those tasks? Ultimately, if it's not too demanding on my time, I might give it a try during a work break.

Hold on, a Game Boy-inspired game that's not made with GB Studio? Yolk Heroes definitely has my attention there! The lack of a real Game Boy version stings a bit, but hey, at least it's on Steam. The whole raising an elf army thing sounds like a charming twist on classic monster collecting RPGs. The mix of idle gameplay and quests is a cool idea too. Definitely checking this out for that sweet nostalgia fix!

The concept of raising an elf army to defeat a nemesis like the Frog Lord is right up my alley. Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago combines my love for fantasy narratives with engaging gameplay mechanics. The quests and training systems allow me to feel like I’m genuinely preparing my heroes for epic battles. The idle aspect is a bonus, as it means I can balance this game with my other hobbies. It’s a charming and captivating addition to the fantasy game genre.

A new idle RPG with a Tamagotchi twist? This Yolk Heroes game sounds like it could be a real time sink! The concept of raising an army of elves is unique, but I'm worried about the "idle" aspect. Will it feel too passive and leave me wanting more control? The ability to train them in different stats and equip them with items sounds appealing to my completionist tendencies though. I might have to get this just to add it to my collection, even if it's not the most action-packed experience.

A 10% discount on launch week for Yolk Heroes? Now that's something I can get behind! The whole raising an elf army and sending them on quests thing sounds like a fun twist on monster collecting RPGs. As long as the idle gameplay isn't too boring and the Tamagotchi aspects aren't overwhelming, this could be a good budget pick-me-up. I'll definitely be checking out some reviews before I take the plunge.
