Wuxia Drama Discussions (and recommendations)

I don't know a lot about wuxia or have seen many series, but have seen a few.

Though I like the ideas I could not get into either Seven Swords(men) series or movie (directed by Tsui Hark), or Wind and Cloud (Storm Riders).

What I liked a lot was Return of Condor Heroes (2006 version) and Legend of Condor Heroes (2008 version, this is actually the prequel to Return). Also Magical Needle (2005) is pretty good.

I ran across an episode of Return of Condor Heroes on one of the local Asian potpourri TV stations (they show Korean, Chinese, Japanese etc news and variety shows throughout the day). The image of a one armed hero with a giant Final Fantasy 7 type sword caught my attention. So I tracked the whole series down and found it to be really good though very sad and heart-breakingly tragic throughout. I guess a lot of Chinese dramas are like that. There's I believe three story lines/novels in the Condor Heroes saga and all three get remade every few years. You don't really have to watch them in order to "get it" though. Since I saw Return first, it was fun watching Legend next and connecting the dots to family histories in the story etc. The last storyline I've yet to see, which is Heaven Sword Dragon Sabre.

Fan

I'm actually a big fan of the wuxia dramas and the comics. the only part that sucks is finding them without having to order the series online. There were a few companies that published the wuxia comics, but sadly stopped. I'm hoping to find one that still does publish them translated into English.

Been watching since I was young.
Wuxia drama is one of the factors for me liking toku; they all have the CGI, costumes and fighting.
For me, I like watching the ones starring the Chinese deity pantheon or classics like Journey to the West. I like the old style clothes and hairstyles the characters have(but not the Qing era Manchurian style urgh). The females have such elaborate hairstyles and robes, the men look so cool doing their martial arts and branishing their weapons.
The fights are really visually lovely and some have nice cheorography. Like when Sun Wukong goes against Nezha..or when Yang Guo partners up with Xiaolongnu to form their sword combo.

I think nearly every chinese speaking countries have made wuxia dramas over the years. Nowadays though, a number of these wuxia are collaborations because of the high budget(costumes, props, CGI, etc).
