I just saw the sign (in Wal-Mart of all places) that Vista is finally coming out at the end of the month. Frankly I take it to mean that I should go an buy three or four copies of XP for the next PCs I buy so that I don't have to use Vista; because no matter how pretty or "secure" Vista is, Microsoft is putting too many hooks into it for my taste. I've never been one to bash Bill Gates, but there really is a limit to the crap that a company can pull, like closing the OS's kernel so tight that most software companies that produce kernel-adhering programs (like antivirus and antispyware) have to submit their code to microsoft so a patch can be made (or so I understand). What kind of lame nonsense is that? And most of the security improvements they offer can be found from third-party companies already, so what's the big deal? Yes, I'm sure it runs better/faster (or will, once the first ten versions/releases have the bugs worked out), but I don't think it's worth it to give up what I do on my own computer to a monitoring system hundreds of miles away (though I know I already do, but not to the extent we're going to see here).
Anyway, that's my opinion. I don't want to touch the thing, and every "Windows Vista Capable" machine I've seen in the last couple months has made me want to be sick. Like it or lump it, Vista, after years of delays (surprise, surprise) is finally coming out January 30th.
To the bomb shelter!! *dives into bunker and begins to replay my Dreamcast copy of Sonic Adventure 2 in grim anticipation of the end of days (or something like that)*
