I've never understood the Shatner obsession. Maybe I need to watch more of TOS or something.

I personally prefer the movies with the classic cast more... but I'm always in for a good laugh by watching some cheesy TOS episodes with bad music as if a 2 year old composed it using pots and pans from the kitchen cupboard. (No offense to any loyal TOS fans here, but that's honestly what it sounds like to me... I can't help but laugh even in the most supposedly-suspenseful moments).

I'd also recommend watching the movie "Fanboys"... Shatner's role is small but still awesome.
