Why is Ultraman Leo so awesome?

Is there a reason why Leo has a more defined fighting style than the previous Showa Ultraman like Seven and co.? That's been nagging at me for awhile. Like, he seems to be more of a fighter than the Ultraman who use their special attacks.

One explaination is Leo grew up in the different culture.
Leo comes from Planet L77 (not Nebula L77!!! Planet L77 is in Nebula M78) apart from UltraBrothers who born in the centeral planet of Nebula M78-- the "Land of Light".

...Or it could be a simple "production cost" decision? Less 'special attacks' = less FX = less $$

Why is Leo so badass?

It's because UltraSeven is a very good teacher.

I think it might have to do largely with the fact that this serves as a nice follow up from Ultraseven. Even though only Dan Moroboshi is the only one from THAT series to return and be a regular presence, it serves as a nice passing of the torch with Ultraseven being the mentor to Ultraman Leo.

Plus, as it's been stated, this show is quite dark, and near the end it gets kinda depressing, especially when just before the entire defense team get wiped out, they think that their teammate, who they don't know is Leo, has abandoned them or betrayed them, even though he is out there trying to protect the world. It's quite depressing when the last thoughts your own friends have is thinking that you are a coward and traitor, and yet they have no idea of the truth, and never will.
