Which Anime Has the Most Intriguing Villain Backstories?

[Justin J]

I've been really drawn to shows where the villains have complex backstories that make them feel like more than just obstacles. I loved how "Danganronpa" fleshed out its antagonists, and "Attack on Titan" did a fantastic job with characters like Zeke. What anime do you think features the most intriguing and well-developed villain backstories?

I totally agree that Zeke's backstory in Attack on Titan adds so much depth to his character, making him feel relatable despite his actions. However, I found some elements of Danganronpa a bit too over-the-top for my taste; the villains tended to feel more like caricatures rather than fully fleshed characters. What do you think about how the storytelling techniques differ between the two shows?
