What would happen to CN...without AS?

...if Adult Swim left it? A few people are predicting that AS might get its own channel before year's end. Of course, this is just a rumor right now, so it could be bullshit. But where would that leave CN if it were true? Since I'm at school I don't get to see CN during the daytimes, but last I checked, the order of the day was:

Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
Ed, Edd, and Eddy
Miguzi
A few random cartoons sprinkled in between the repeats of the first three shows
Adult Swim

Personally, I hate...despise...loathe...**** it, there's no word for how much I don't like the first and third show, and as funny as Mac and co. are, I'm damned tired of seeing the same episodes air over and over and over again, ad nauseum. If Adult Swim disappears, what will happen to CN? Will it just fall apart entirely? Already their VP of development, Sam Register (who I hear is an idiot anyways) has quit due to a lack of a consistent direction.

Obviously, CN won't be ending because AS leaves, since AS is counted as a totally different channel in ratings already, but I could see them losing a bit of ratings on Saturdays with Toonami soon dropping JLU and then people no longer watching Toonami as a lead-in for AS (which is all I saw it as lately anyway).

And of course, there's always the question of what will they put on instead of AS. I want to say more of the same, but I don't know...Tom and Jerry Kids and Pup Named Scooby Doo (two of my favorite shows as a child) have come back to CN. Its quite possible they may air some of H-B's pre-Cartoon Cartoon 90's stuff, or better still, some of the old 60's or 80's stuff. (...Or better still, bring back Midnight Run! That would be SO awesome!)

AS is quite the powerhouse for CN... I can't see them chucking it for its own channel ever when it benefits CN so much.

Where'd you hear the rumor?

I remember at the height of its popularity, Toonami was rumored to get its own network and that never happened.

If there was a combo of Toonami and Adult Swim, I'd never have to change the channel, I know that much.

If CN was interested in what truly benefitted them:

A.) Toonami wouldn't be on Saturdays only
B.) More Cartoon Cartoons (older ones with more episodes) other than the aforementioned three would be on.
C.) They wouldn't keep allowing their best shows to leave/be canceled/put on at stupid hours of the morning.

At any rate....

Is where I found it.

To quote for the lazy:

"Adult Swim" will spin-off into its own channel by the end of the year, due to changing cable laws and the "a la carte"-ization of the cable industry. Cartoon Network proper will continue its decline, if not in ratings then in quality of programming. Once a powerhouse of 'creator-driven' animation, it has increasingly lost its focus and sense of direction. There is so much confusion that the network has taken to screening live-action programming in recent months. The network's vice president of development, Sam Register, recently stepped down from his post, highlighting the internal turmoil and lack of clear consistent direction for the network.

It does seem like most of that is true, and...to be honest, if CN died, I really wouldn't be all that sad. I did my mourning for this channel this Christmas, when instead of airing the host of H-B cartoons they've aired for nearly every year since their inception, they stuck to "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" and their KND Christmas episode. I know I seem like I'm joking, but I'm serious. These cartoons always marked the coming of Christmas for me as a child and to see them gone, as well as to watch the current state of CN, tells me that the channel I loved so much during my childhood (and I literally grew up watching this channel--I was almost six when I started watching in 1992) is gone.

Haven't there been rumors before about Adult Swim spinning off to get it's own channel?

Honestly I don't see it happening for 2 reasons.
1) There is a reason the programing on Adult Swim is late at night. I don't see them showing this kind of programing at a time a day when young kids could see it.
2) Does Adult Swim actually HAVE enough programing to go to a 24hr channel and not rerun the CRAP out of their shows?

1.) There's nothing on AS that can't be seen/heard on regular Cable. Distancing it from CN would just make this statement more true.
2.) The Anime Network doesn't. Neither does CN. But to see:

12 Oz. Mouse
American Dad
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
The Boondocks
Family Guy
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law
Moral Orel
Perfect Hair Forever
Robot Chicken
Squidbillies
Stroker and Hoop
The Venture Bros.
Tom Goes to the Mayor

These shows are all still getting new episodes. That could be the draw.

Dethklok
Minoriteam

New series to come out in 2006.

Baby Blues
The Bob Clampett Show
The Brak Show
Cartoon Planet
Futurama
Home Movies
Mission Hill
The Oblongs
The Popeye Show
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Sealab 2021

These shows could work as filler. Though CN lost the rights to air Futurama after 2008 to Comedy Centrla.

That's just for the comedy side. Action....

Full Metal Alchemist
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Comlex 2nd GIG
Inuyasha
Samurai Champloo

With the exception of IY, none of these shows are tired enough to be unable to endure a rerun or two.

Older/Finished Stuff:

The Big O
Blue Gender
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1st GIG
Gigantor
Paranoia Agent
s-CRY-ed
Trigun
Witch Hunter Robin
Wolf's Rain

You only need 24 shows to air in a day to make sure something different is shown every half-hour. They've got around 40. Granted, SGC2C, Robot Chicken, ATHF, Sealab 2021, 12Oz. Mouse, TGTTM, Squidbillies, and Moral Orel are all 15 minutes. But given that almost all of these shows have made it to 20 episodes (some 40), and most are getting new episodes...I have no doubt they could mix it up so that we don't get sick of an AS channel. Tack on that they're bound to get new anime (and new original programming) if they become a channel, and I know I'D dump CN like a bad damned habit.

Going with Keith's idea...Toonami + AS = a Dead CN, and a kick-ass channel featuring some of the greatest television shows of the past eight or nine years.

So...what's the show that would save their @$$???

Naruto isn't doing enough...I say Bleach...

...Guyver on Toonami/Adult Swim???

Hell CN drove us all mad with their 50million Scoobydoo slots, now they moved scooby to Boomerang, and replaced it with Grim adventers of Billy and Mandy and Ed, Edd, and Eddie.

Fosters is GREAT!

I don't feel like arguing, so thus I'll only address two people that have posted:

EEE and GABM suck. Fosters IS good, but I'm tired of seeing it. Its only had what, two seasons? Its got no business being on this much.

Save CN's ass? Just ain't gonna happen man. Toonami isn't going to manage a show cool enough for it.
