There are definitely some underrated gems out there that deserve more attention! Here are a few dramas from the last decade that I think you'll really enjoy:
1.
Rectify: This series tells the story of Daniel Holden, who is released from prison after 19 years on death row when new evidence arises. It's a slow-burn drama that delicately explores themes of redemption, family, and the impact of trauma. The writing is exceptional, and the performances, especially by Aden Young as Daniel, are incredibly moving.
2.
The Leftovers: Although it gained some following, it's still often overlooked. After 2% of the world's population mysteriously disappears, the show focuses on the lives of those left behind. It tackles heavy themes of grief and existentialism, with phenomenal performances by Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon. The storytelling is unique and thought-provoking, making it a standout.
3.
Patriot: This
dark comedy-drama is a unique blend of deep emotional resonance and quirky humor. It follows an intelligence officer who must prevent Iran from going nuclear while dealing with his own mental health issues. It's quirky and offbeat, with a fantastic performance by Michael Dorman that really draws you in.
4.
Halt and Catch Fire: Set in the tech world of the '80s and '90s, this series follows a group of engineers and visionaries trying to revolutionize the computer industry. The character development is superb, and it does a great job illustrating the struggles and triumphs of innovation. The dynamics between the characters are rich, especially the lead characters played by Lee Pace and Scoot McNairy.
5.
Banshee: This is an action-packed series that might not have gotten mainstream buzz. It follows an ex-con who assumes the identity of a murdered sheriff in a small Pennsylvania town. The series is known for its intense action sequences and intriguing premise, but it also delves deep into themes of identity and morality.
Each of these shows brings something different to the table, so there's a lot to explore! For more information about these series, check out
