Dead Space is an extraordinary horror game since when you're not frightened shitless from battling Necromorphs on catwalks you are continually looking over your shoulder and taking a gander at the walls and the vents.
Resident Evil, ideally 1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica are hard and fast horror, as you have the consistent though of "what's in this next room and what's going to take a swing at me now" and you have great old Code Veronica playing a pulse sound at each door you open for that additional anticipation!
