what do you classify as an old school anime

this question came to when i was talk on another Forum about the topic of retro/ Old School anime

i say its vintage has to be at lest 15 years older than the age of the person viewing it

if your 20 the most mainstream retro anime is Gundam first so stuff like Eva and Ranma are not retro to me
 
In my opinion, it depends on how old the anime itself is, not the viewer.

To qualify, it should at least be over the twenty year mark.
 
Well, the most common definition of something being "Nostalgic" is 10 years old (Ie, now Gaoranger could be considered Nostalgia).

But where Nostalgic ends and "Retro" Begins is not clear.

For me, it's any work more than 15 years old (Ie anything made in or before 1996), and the viewers age plays no part in it.

but how can something be old if you yourself are older than it for example i was 6 when Changeman was first shown so calling that old is calling me old

so for me old school in toku terms would be KR X and in terms of anime is say Goshogun is Retro
 

As many have already said, the age of the viewer is irrelevant.

I also think my age will not determine if it is a classic. Say, if I was a child when Dragon Ball aired, would that not make it a classic now? Would that mean that it is a classic to some and it isn't to others because they were children at different times? Does that mean that as much as one would like to believe that something is a classic, if he was born in the time of Ultraman or Kamen Rider, that he or she may never say it is a classic because it was too close to the person's age?

Fox-Chan, that's not nice. How old is Changeman?
