for those of you who are not familiar with the term tabula rasa, it means not having to develop the characters because the featured characters are just doing their job and its what they are trained to do.
a couple series ive seen so far with tabula rasa characters are zyuranger and ohranger. the character and team development may not exist, abut it does for the right reasons under tabula rasa. in ohranger, the team consisted of trained soldiers and they are there by choice. with zyuranger, they were in some ways warriors that were chosen to do it and they already a team that was highly trained and knew how to use their powers.
in my youtube review show of bioman, i say bioman does an excellent job of disguising itself as tabula rasa series. the character development is kind of lacking but i think they did a great job of going around this by being more story driven as opposed to character driven. i think mikas death had a lot to do with this direction. i felt bioman had great potential in being a character driven series in the same way jetman and megaranger was, but was more story focused instead. after mikas death, im glad they developed well as a team, but they came too much as trained soldiers and ill admit i had an issue with that when they were just regular people. they develop well as biomen, but i felt they could have developed more as human beings. maybe im looking into it too much, but feel free to give your piece.
anyway, i am still new to sentai. can you guys tell me any other series in which it follows the tabula rasa formula or disgusies itself as one?
i got nothing against it, it just gives me an idea on what to watch after i see a certain series. sometimes watching such a series can be more refreshing and it gives you a different perspective on story telling. i think any forumla whether story driven or character driven can work, but its just how its pulled off.
