We're Getting A Peanuts Clue Game

Charles Schulz’s Peanuts turns 75 this year. It’s managed to endure in pop culture multiple decades after the death of its creator, which is a test of time that’s hard to pass. Throughout those three quarters of a century, there’s been an endless amount of products and merchandise featuring the Peanuts characters to this day, but the one thing they’ve never had is…their own Clue game. And, well, there’s a reason for that. The core of Clue is a murder mystery and murder isn’t the kind of thing Schulz typically focused on. What’s the plot here — are we trying to figure out which one of the kids whacked Miss Othmar? “It was Woodstock, in the pumpkin patch, with the zamboni!” No, it’s not like that….they’ve figured out a way that makes sense. The mystery at the center of Peanuts Clue is who took Linus’s blanket. In the strip it is almost always Lucy, except for those occasions when it’s Snoopy (and Snoopy doesn’t even try to hide it, he literally runs through the streets with it with Linus clinging to the end for dear life). But what if it’s someone else? What motive could the other characters have for taking the blanket of the neighborhood’s most beloved cultist? That’s what you and your friends must figure out. Here’s what’s in the box: Game Board (9 locations) 6 Character Movers 6 Peril Tokens 6 Character Role Cards 6 Suspect ‘Clue’ Cards “At The Op Games we believe happiness is…playing board games with friends and family,” said Dane Chapin, CEO of The Op Games. “We’re excited to add CLUE: PEANUTS Edition to our growing line of PEANUTS titles in this special anniversary year, and fans can look forward to more of Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy just around the corner.” You should be able to find Peanuts Clue starting this week at most retailers that stock board games. Just remember, there’s no murder in it. It’s the good kind of grief.

Honestly, I’m surprised it took this long for a Peanuts Clue game to exist. The franchise has had so many weird crossovers in the past—Snoopy-branded everything, from cereal to golf clubs—so why not a mystery board game? Linus’s blanket being stolen is a solid, wholesome premise, and I bet the game art will be really charming. It’s probably not something I’d personally buy, but I can see it being a fun gift for Peanuts fans.

I wonder if they included Snoopy’s typewriter as one of the locations—maybe the culprit left a ransom note? I’d also love if there were little character quirks, like Lucy accusing everyone just to be annoying. If the game designers put real thought into capturing the humor of the comics, this could be a really fun addition to both Clue and Peanuts collections.
