In “Wanted”, Jung Hye-In has reached the top of the success ladder as a South Korean actress. People in the entertainment business are happy to do even more work with her and viewers watching her interview want to her know her future plans. Everybody is shocked when she announces that she plans to retire. WHAT? WHEN? NOW?? Even though many are displeased with her decision, she is determined to follow it through. AT least … she was determined to follow it through. But that same night her young son was kidnapped.

When the kidnapper contacted her, they did not demand a ransom. Instead, they demanded that she put together a team and participate in a Reality TV/Game Show broadcast. It will be 10 episodes and in each episode, she has to complete a mission. If she fails the mission, her son dies. If she completes all of the missions successfully, her son will be returned to her. What is the kidnapper after? The kidnapper believes that the show will be extremely popular and generate lots of advertising revenues. Even if the viewers don’t believe it’s real, Jung Hye-In is an actress. She needs to convince them to watch the show.

Even before the first episode of the reality show, Jung Hye-In asked to be interviewed on another popular TV show. When the host asked her why she wanted to be a guess, she stated frankly that she wanted to appear on this show because she had they had high viewer rating. A lot of people will be watching and she has something very important to say. The host gave her permission to continue speaking. She looked directly into the camera and told the audience the real reason for her appearance and her distress, i.e. her son has been kidnapped. The kidnappers are demanding that she participate in a reality TV/game show and she is begging viewers to watch this show. Her child’s life depends on it. When she finished making her statement, she stood up and then she fainted. She wasn’t faking. She fainted!

Everybody is stunned. They did not expect her to say what she said. They don’t want to risk not believing her. Surely she is telling the truth. Of course, the kidnappers told her not to call the police. But after doing that on a live show with thousands of viewers, how can the police ignore it? Kidnapping is a crime! Sadly, even though a young child’s life is at stake, the media tries to incorporate other content into the show to make it more entertaining for the viewers.

Viewership and Rating:

My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewers.

“Wanted” is very similar to “Drive”, which is a 2024 Korean film about a real kidnapping. In the movie, a social media influencer was kidnapped and the kidnapper made her film it from the trunk of her car. She had to convince viewers that her kidnapping was real and to send money to contribute as ransom to pay the kidnapper. It was a wild ride!

By contrast, “Wanted” is a Korean drama series about a South Korean actress who wants to resign from the entertainment business and live a quiet life, while raising her son. But her son was kidnapped and to save his life, she had to convince people to watch a 10-episode broadcast. Some reviewers categorized “Wanted” as a Comedy. I don’t get that. I was not laughing. This series was intense and from the 1st episode, I was ready to catch that kidnapper and string them up!! How dare they terrorize a young child. I know it was fiction but it made me angry!

NOTE: Don’t get confused. The “Wanted” that’s streaming on Netflix is not Korean.

Viki viewers are usually pretty reliable. If they're giving it a 9, it must be good! The concept sounds crazy, but hey, sometimes crazy is good. Plus, 10 episodes? Perfect length for a weekend binge session.

This kidnapper deserves a piece of my mind! Preying on a mother's love like that? Disgusting! I hope the drama shows a strong police investigation alongside the reality show stuff. It would be great to see the bad guys brought to justice, even if it's just fictional.

Crime, mystery, thriller, AND suspense? Sign me up! But wait, some reviewers say there's comedy too? Is this a dark comedy situation? Like, the actress is cracking jokes while desperately trying to save her son? Intrigued. This could be a wild ride, for better or worse.

This "Drive" movie you mentioned about the influencer kidnapping...yikes! I can't handle stuff that's too close to reality. But a Korean drama? Maybe it's more fictionalized? Still, the idea of a child being involved is chilling. Though, Kim A-Joong is amazing. Maybe I'll give it a try for her acting alone.

The idea of exploiting a real-life tragedy for entertainment is disturbing. I can't imagine the emotional toll on the actress and her family. It's a fine line between reality TV and exploitation, and this show seems to cross it.

I love Kim A-Joong, she's such a talented actress. And Ji Hyun-Woo in a detective role? Sign me up! This whole concept of a kidnapping mixed with reality TV is just...wow. I can't imagine how they pulled it off, but it sounds like they kept viewers on the edge of their seats. The high ratings on Viki definitely make it tempting to binge-watch this weekend. Though I gotta admit, I'm curious about the reviewers who called it a comedy. Maybe there's some underlying social commentary hidden within the drama? Either way, this sounds like a must-watch
