Vocal Performances That Made the Characters Unforgettable

There's something truly magical about the impact of voice acting in anime. Some performances are so powerful that they elevate the character to iconic status. For me, [Hayao Miyazaki's film Princess Mononoke](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119698/) wouldn’t be the same without the hauntingly beautiful performance by [Yōji Matsuda](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0557897/) as Ashitaka, and the emotion he brings is just incredible.

Then there's [Maaya Sakamoto](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1043739/) voicing Hitomi in The Vision of Escaflowne. That role has always stuck with me; her delivery really captures Hitomi’s growth and struggles.

What are some vocal performances that stand out for you? Any particular roles that you think deserve more recognition? Or maybe a voice actor whose work has only gotten better with time? Let’s share some love for these talented individuals!

The impact of voice acting in anime really can’t be overstated. I totally agree about Ashitaka’s performance; it brings such depth to the character, especially during the more emotional scenes. On that note, I’d like to shout out Maaya Sakamoto as the voice of Yukino in His and Her Circumstances. Her ability to convey Yukino's duality as both a high-achiever and a relatable person is phenomenal.

Another performance that always blows my mind is Crispin Freeman as Itachi in Naruto. The way he delivers those intense moments gives the character an unforgettable presence that lingers with you long after the episode ends.

What do you think about performances that transition into live-action? Sometimes that can be a real mixed bag.
