The catalog of Manga Mirai, a digital manga platform launched by NTT DOCOMO, is about to get much larger thanks to a new deal with VIZ Media to license many of their titles. The deal will add approximately 4,000 volumes to the platform, though not all at once. Effective immediately, Manga Mirai subscribers have access to volumes of to One Piece, Naruto, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, among others. On July 1, Uzumaki, and Komi Can’t Communicate will join the library. Expect more in the months ahead. Viz is not the only manga publisher with a Manga Mirai deal, and MM says their digital manga library will be significantly expanded over the summer, reaching approximately 20,000 volumes by August. In addition, their “Adapted to Anime” campaign is currently shaving 50% off the cost of all manga that’s been adapted into anime, like My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, WITCH WATCH, and Sakamoto Days. Manga Mirai will have its first booth at Anime Expo this year. They’re promising it’ll be stuffed with interactive experiences like the following: Manga Corner – Anime fans will have the opportunity to read various printed manga books for free, including popular […]

I’ve been reading manga since I was a teenager in the late 90s, and to see how easy it has become now to access these stories digitally makes me happy. This VIZ partnership with Manga Mirai is a smart move. VIZ titles are essential for any manga library. It’s good to know that they are not dropping all 4,000 volumes at once—it gives time to enjoy each title. Also, I think the “Adapted to Anime” campaign is clever, especially for new fans who started with anime and want to try the original manga. As a collector, I still buy physical books, but I know digital access helps younger readers who can’t always afford a full shelf. I hope the platform keeps improving its interface, though. Reading digitally is only fun if it’s smooth and responsive.

I understand the convenience, but I’m still unsure about reading manga on a screen. I like holding a book. I’ve used Manga Mirai before, and it’s fine, but I always return to paper. The news about VIZ titles is big, I’ll admit that. You cannot have a serious manga service without One Piece or Naruto. It’s also interesting that they’re giving away merchandise at AX. If I go, I might check it out. But for me, digital is still second place. I just hope these platforms keep supporting the creators properly.

It’s impressive how Manga Mirai is scaling up so fast. Partnering with VIZ was essential if they want to compete with other platforms like Manga Plus or Crunchyroll Manga. What’s more interesting to me is how they’re integrating real-world events into their digital marketing strategy. That booth at Anime Expo feels more like a tech showcase than a simple promo stand. Having iPads and live demos creates engagement and trust with potential users. I’m curious how well their infrastructure will handle a huge traffic spike after all these new titles drop.

My teenage daughter is really into manga, and she told me about this Manga Mirai update. I checked it out, and I have to say, it’s great that kids can access legal manga so easily now. Back when I was growing up, this stuff was not available in my language or country. The fact that this platform is growing and working with companies like VIZ shows how global manga culture has become. I may even read a few series myself to understand what she’s into. The photo area sounds like a fun family activity if we go to Anime Expo together.

Honestly, I’ve seen too many platforms come and go. Manga Mirai looks nice now, but will it still be here in five years? That’s the question. I’ve already bought these series in print and on other digital platforms. Why would I start over again? Yes, they have VIZ now. That’s cool. But this whole thing feels more like a corporate stunt than something made for readers. If they want long-term fans, they should focus on deep cuts and older titles too, not just what’s trending. And the gacha machine? That feels like bait.

I’m still learning English, and reading manga helps me practice. I use Manga Mirai because it has some titles with English and Japanese both. I hope they add more language options with this new VIZ deal. I want to read Naruto again but this time in English. Also, I think the Anime Expo booth will help more people try reading. My friends who like anime but don’t read manga might try it now. I think making manga easier to access is good for everyone, not just fans in Japan.

This kind of digital expansion always sounds good at first, but I’m watching carefully. Will these volumes be permanent, or are they rented temporarily like some apps do? Also, are they charging fairly for older series versus new releases? Sometimes companies hide these details in the fine print. I’m not trying to be negative—I support digital reading—but I think more transparency would help people trust Manga Mirai more. VIZ is a strong partner, but that means expectations will also be high.

This news made my day! I just started using Manga Mirai two weeks ago, and now they announce this huge VIZ update? That’s perfect timing. I’ve never read Uzumaki before, and now it’s coming on July 1? Yes, please! The fact that the app is adding stuff like Komi Can’t Communicate is cool too. I like romantic comedy manga a lot. If I can finish my backlog in time, I’ll definitely grab some discounted anime titles next.

I haven’t read manga in a while. I was into it a lot during high school and then drifted away. But now, with all this being digital and easy to access, I feel like giving it another shot. I remember reading Naruto when it was new. Seeing it back again in this form feels nostalgic. I’m glad Manga Mirai is also welcoming older fans like me. Maybe I’ll read something new like Frieren to see what today’s generation likes.
