Sony came forward with a new title for Venom 3 this morning, as well as a bump-up for its release. The sequel is now called "Venom: The Last Dance" and will be out October 25 of this year. Previously, Venom 3 was scheduled for November 8, 2024.

Take your guesses as to what "The Last Dance" means. We're struggling to think of any dancing-themed villains in Venom's rogues gallery. The one thing we do know is that it definitely doesn't mean this is the last Venom movie, no matter what they say. This is the only "extended Spider-man universe" thing Sony has had any real success with. They'll be back.

We might've gotten this movie even sooner, had there not been an actor's strike midway through filming it. Production started early last year but was derailed by the SAG-AFTRA walkout; all actors returned to set at the end of November. Shooting wrapped in February; VFX and post-production work is next. Only when Venom's goopy body is properly rendered will Sony be able to show us any clips.

Tom Hardy is of course returning as Venom, alongside Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Clark Backo. Sitting in the director's chair is newcomer Kelly Marcel, who also wrote the script based on a story she cooked up with Hardy. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Hutch Parker, Marcel and Hardy serve as producers.

Venom: The Last Dance will open in theaters October 25.

Venom: The Last Dance? Now that's got me scratching my head. While I'm not buying into the whole MJ cameo idea, I'm curious about the significance of the title. Maybe it's a metaphor for Venom's struggle for acceptance or a nod to some epic battle on the horizon. Regardless, I'm ready to lace up my shoes and hit the theater for another round of symbiotic shenanigans.

Probably the only Spiderman spin off that sells. Kraven the hunter gets too much delays. Madame Web is flop and critically destroyed. Silk is getting attacked by antiwokes already.

I can't believe anyone still cares about this! The first movie was barely even passable, just a guilty pleasure at best. And don't even get me started on the sequel – it's turned into an absolute dumpster fire. There's no redemption in sight for this franchise, but of course, Sony's gotta keep milking it for every last penny. It's infuriating how they're just churning out garbage and expecting us to lap it up. Enough is enough! It's time to put an end to this nonsense and move on to something worthwhile.

I am furious about this! Except for the cartoons, everything related to the Sony Spiderverse should be blacklisted until they either cancel it or strike a fair deal with the MCU. I've been saying it from day one: Marvel should be the one handling Miles Morales and Peter Parker. Imagine the epic crossovers we'd get to see every few years if they collaborated properly! But no, instead we're stuck with these lackluster Sonyverse and Venom movies. They're just plain awful, and I'm not thankful for them in the slightest! And now, to make matters worse, it looks like they're trying to merge it with the MCU? That's an absolute disaster in the making! It's like mixing oil with water – it's just not gonna work, and it's gonna ruin everything we love about the MCU.

The same WB issue that plagued the late DCEU impacts Sony. The official coordinators for these Sony films are James Gunn and Kevin Feige; there is no official coordinator. Someone who knows exactly what Spiderman is—perhaps a comic book writer. If this creative manager was in charge, the Sonyverse could have a devoted fan base akin to the MCU and DCU. Madame Web and Morbius films would never have been approved.

The revelation of an actor's strike disrupting production sheds light on the behind-the-scenes hurdles faced by the filmmaking team. It's a reminder of the delicate balance required to bring a project of this scale to fruition. Furthermore, the return of familiar faces like Tom Hardy hints at a continuation of the character dynamics established in previous installments.

Hopefully, this is where the discussion regarding Andrew Garfield's continued cameo appearances begins. The optimal time to satisfy the "I want to fight an alien." sentence is before the Secret Wars. I honestly hope that at least one spider emblem is worn by this Venom incarnation.
