None of these cuts are surprising. I called three of them when it was announced the cuts were coming. (Mark Jindrak, Shannon Moore & Mordecai)
Maven, arguably the biggest name to be cut so far. But even then despite a few efforts he was never taken seriously beyond the mid-card level. However he is a solid performer and continued to improve over the past five years. He was also well liked. As I understand it, he was cut because it was felt he was overpaid for someone in his position. Don't be surprised if he gets re-hired later this year for less money.
Billy Kidman, Akio, Shannon Moore & Spike Dudley were all cut to make room for the luchadores. Also these guys were mainly Velocity wrestlers. With that show getting canned when WWE moves back to the USA Network. There wasn't going to be a spot for them anyway. The future doesn't look too bright for Paul London though. You'll know it's coming if he drops the cruiserweight title to Juventud within the month.
The only thing shocking about Mark Jindrak's release was that it didn't happen already. He's a mediocre wrestler at best and lacks charisma. He's never been able to get the fans to care about him even when they tried to get him to leech off of Kurt Angle's heat.
Gangrel. Meh. I didn't even know they had rehired him.
Mordecai. He was only brought on to be used as meat for the Undertaker to tear apart. But his character tanked before they could even get that far. So he was bumped back to OVW where he started to get a bad attitude and act up as he apparently didn't learn from what happened to Linda "Shaniqua" Miles. So good riddance.
There's expected to be at least two more cuts. Here's my deadpool.
1. 2004 Diva Wannabes. To make room for the 2005 girls. Christy is safe. I suspect Maria is too as her dumb blonde character is catching on pretty well. Over on Smackdown. Joy Giovanni and maybe Michelle McCool will be kept since they actually do stuff with those two. But Candice and all the others, I suspect will be cut sooner than later.
2. Funaki & Nunzio. Cruiserweights just don't get any love.
3. Christopher Nowinski, Mark Henry & Ultimo Dragon. They've been inactive for ages anyway. I think in Nowinski's case, the door would be open for an office job at least.
4. Miss Jackie. Not a Diva Wannabe but just T&A anyway. Gotta make room for the new T&A.
5. Charlie Haas. Talented but has no charisma at all.
6. Garrison Cade. Ditto Charlie except the talented part.
7. Simon Dean. I think in his case, age will be a deciding factor if he's released. He's in a similar position as Rico Constantino was last year.
8. Victoria. Not like there's anyone for her to wrestle anyway.
9. Kenzo Suzuki & Hiroko. Both are well liked backstage and Vince McMahon himself has a lot of admiration for Hiroko's insightfulness and business sense but they might decide to cut their losses with Kenzo anyway. Though they might give a team-up with Tajiri as try first.
10. Hardcore Holly. No. I don't really think he's in danger of getting released but one can dream right? Then again, once the inevitable lawsuits start coming in as a result of his new wrestling school, WWE may want to distant themselves from Bob "I Love Fresh Meat" Holly.
