Trouble with Fiveman

I have the same problem with Fiveman as I did with Maskman. there's nothing really wrong with it, there are some great characters, ideas, Mechs and such but it's just..................boring.

I found Maskman to be the complete opposite of boring. It's one of my favourite sentai series, actually. but to each his own! anything in particular you found boring?

I thought Fiveman was awesome when I watched it. Still on my list as #1

Fiveman has a good first half (sort of Changeman redux with the appearance of several Zone victims) and a lackluster (sometimes downright weird) second half. In that respect it's the reverse of Kakuranger. (Though Kaku was more weird than lackluster.) By the finale I was just waiting for it to be over. The finale isn't even that great with the way the Zone bosses react to Medor's secret. "Yeah, let's just keep working for her as though nothing ever happened." Right, sure.

And then of course the whole premise of how long-distance space travel was perfected in the 70s. Unless Sedon is really really close to the Moon, I don't see that happening.

Okay. I skimmed through Fiveman again. I can say it's definitely more intriguing than the first time I watched it. The characters, mecha, and fight scenes were good. But the season as a whole still feels somewhat incoherent to me.

So, for the people who absolutely thought Fiveman was one of the best, it stood out well, and is among your favorites, are there any particular reasons?

For what it's worth I did see improvement when Shubalie arrived. But not by much.

The beginning of comedic villians was also something that hurt the series. I recall the lead villian making the one general do vacuuming in the HQ...

The Vulgyre was being courteous to his officers. Villains have to take leaks, too, you know. Carranger told us that.

Despite being unexpected, I did find ep 26 to be hilarious. The first ep where Garoa truly falls into his more comedic personality. I liked the scene where he and the Fiveman are driving cars. And Garoa shows he's got a license.

The ep was funny, but it did annoy me a lot about what they did to Garoa, and how it affected the rest of the show. The whole story and writing became rather incoherent afterwards.

But still, one of the most epic car fights ever! :laugh:
