So Toxic! What really hit me was how the mother truly believed she knew everything about her daughter. I have seen this kind of parent in real life. They provide food, school, and plans for the future, but they never stop to ask how their child feels inside. Yoo Ri looked perfect on the outside, and that made her pain easier to hide. I did not see the mother as evil, but I also could not fully defend her. She loved her daughter in a very controlled way. The investigation part was slow at times, but emotionally it worked for me. The denial felt real. Some parents think depression only happens to weak kids or troubled homes. This movie shows that pressure and silence can exist even in a clean, successful family. The ending made me uncomfortable, and I think that was the point.

What stayed with me most is the idea that being loved is not the same as feeling safe. Yoo Ri is clearly cared for in material ways, but emotional safety is missing. The mother talks a lot, but she does not listen. I noticed how often she speaks for her daughter instead of asking about her. That habit continues even after death. The mystery element kept me watching, but the emotional message is what mattered. I think many viewers focus on whether it was murder or suicide, but the deeper issue is why suicide felt possible to Yoo Ri. That question is more uncomfortable than any plot twist. I respect that the movie does not turn the mother into a monster. It turns her into a mirror. Some people will see nothing in that mirror, others will see too much. That depends on their own experiences.

I did not like the mother, but I understood her. She was not evil. She was scared of facing reality. When people say “my child would never,” that already means they are not listening. The movie shows how adults trust grades more than feelings. I grew up like that. As long as I performed well, nobody asked if I was okay. That part felt honest and uncomfortable.

I went in expecting a crime story, but it felt more like a quiet emotional horror. Nothing supernatural, just normal people failing each other. Yoo Ri hiding medication did not shock me. Teens hide things when they feel judged. What hurt was how invisible her pain was. Adults often think silence means peace. This movie says silence can also mean exhaustion.

Of course, you WANT to believe your children are perfect angels, happy, and don't have a care in the world. But when your kids walk out of your house every day, you may not know what kind of world they're walking into. The parent in this K-drama was in DENIAL. But in DEFENSE of the parents who are doing their best, some kids put on a happy face and close off the people who care about them. The parents don't KNOW!! As a parent, watching this was PAINFUL.
