This Generation of Games = Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Heyheyheyheyheyheyheyheyhey Hey Hey HEY.

Stop right there.

I'm sure you forgot about another niche genre that's still got its charm over the years.

Here's a couple hints:

Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2009 (which is, technically, not really one, but it's got that flair--no pun intended--to it)
Tekken 6
Soul Calibur IV

Did we forget those? Huh? Huh? Did we? Did we? Did we now??? Eh?

Well...I did say I can be proven wrong. :P

In any case....I know those are in the lineup for both 360 and PS3.

But what I meant was that for every Tekken or Street Fighter game, there's like 3 or 4 games like Call of Duty overshadowing them.

I'm still waiting for Atlus to come out with something for the PS3 or DS (since they have a pretty good stock for the DS and Wii). I'm also waiting to see Square Enix bring yet another edition of KH into the PS3.

And I thought Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was Japan-only?!

speaking to the auther, I can't agree more. I had predicted this downfall since grand theft auto 3 came out, that the ps2 was the last true console with innovation to it (including gamecube and xbox.) and for the most part I've been proven overall right. last game I really played that was "new" was twilight princess and overall, I'm not complaining. I mean, I love first person shooters, yet I would like it if it wasn't ALL first person shooters

You guys sound like a broken Record. IT'S ALL FPS. IT'S ALL FPS. IT'S ALL FPS. IT'S ALL FPS. IT'S ALL FPS.

it's really rather sad. And I am sorry, no I am not sorry, but anyone that says there hasn't been innovation since the ps2 has no clue about anything going on in video games.

Or they just don't agree with you...which CAN happen too. :P

This has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing with me. If you keep making the claim that all the 360 has is Shooters/FPS then I am going to keep telling you how wrong you are.

And as far as the no innovation since the ps2, that is just complete bullshit.

Yeah, it's like saying that all there is to a nintendo handheld is Mario or Pokemon games. The 360 has more games on it then you think

Too many of the games on any current format are heavily flawed, including the best ones. A lot of the RPGs suffer pacing problems or the usual storyline problems. One or two innovative action games came along and evolved the whole action/ shooter/ FPS genres, but then everything else just built off of that. Other games attempted to mimic or take inspiration from great older games (System Shock 2 for example)... And then there's the horrible sequels-

Aside from some questionably successful attempts at imaginative new titles, the medium in general just feels like it's lost a lot of the effort that was previously put in, and with the dissatisfaction gamers' standards are all either too high or too low.

Like the person who claimed there is no innovation, everything you said is pure opinion. You guys must have very limited fields of view when it comes to games.

If everything we say is pure opinion how can you say we're totally wrong? I'd argue that the people who keep buying all the big games on the system have very limited taste in games being how similar they all seem.

Out of the two lists in the gamefaqs page you linked us to under top 10 games, 6/10 of the games are shooting, and that's not even counting the games that just get on there before they're out right now and people are familiar with the property, like as far as I've seen, Afro Samurai isn't some big hit game, so we can kind of argue that the rest are real big games, that's still 6/9 games with significant shooting.

Then on the top 10 message board listings there you have another 6/10 with tons of shooting (I say it like that because while GTA4 and RE5 aren't shooters, they still have a significant bunch of shooting). That brings me to another point, look at RE5. Resident Evil is supposed to be survival horror, now it just seems like a co-op zombie shooter. Everything's moving to shooters. Fallout 3 is often called Oblivion with guns. That's just the nature of the system. What are some of the biggest games on the system? Halo 3...shooter, Gears of War...shooter, one of the most critically acclaimed games on the system, Bioshock...shooter.

Meanwhile, also on gamefaqs, look at the top 10 Wii games. 1 fighting game, 2 simulation games, 1 racing game, 1 adventure game, 1 RPG, 1 action game, 1 shooter, 1 music game, and 1 strategy game. Little more variety there.

Also, it seems that if a game's not a shooter on 360, it has to have a certain amount of violence in it to be considered "mature" and desirable for people to play. It's just tiring. I've never liked violent games, especially when they all act the same, which is why I can't find much I want on 360.
