We’re officially one month away from the release of the first fully original Mana game in over a decade: Visions of Mana! And what a pretty vision it is. But you don’t have to wait to see that beauty. A demo for the game was just released a few hours ago….and it’s available for every system it’s on! (Alas, that doesn’t include Switch.) Though a typical party in a Mana title is a three person crew, you will have five party members to choose from at any given time: Soul Guard Val (voiced by Stephen Fu), Oracle of Wind Careena (voiced by Rachel Rial), Radiant Sword Morley, (voiced by Kaiji Tang), Queen of the Deep Palamena (voiced by Vanessa Lemonides) and Woodland Custodian Julei (voiced by Amber Aviles). Val, Careena, and Morley are playable in the demo. The monsters you meet will bear elemental strengths and weaknesses, and by switching to the fighter with the opposing elemental type, you can gain an advantage. It’s become a hot new trend for

Demo that takes me straight to the boss fight? Sounds perfect! Don't have a ton of free time these days, so this is a great way to get a taste of the combat. Plus, bonus weapons? Sold!

So, there's a new Mana game out? Cool! I've always been into RPGs, but never really got into the series. This demo seems like a good chance to check it out. Five characters? That's a lot to keep track of. Hope the combat is fun. I'm not too worried about missing out on the early part of the game, as long as the demo is good.

A demo that doesn't carry over progress? That's a strange choice. I get wanting to showcase the game's mid-point, but it feels like a missed opportunity to hook players in. Five playable characters is interesting, but I hope it doesn't lead to shallow character development. The weapon reward is a nice touch, though.

Demo for a single-player RPG? Haven't those gone out of style? Maybe I'll just wait for some gameplay streams to see if it looks good.
