The Unsung Heroes of Gaming: Characters That Deserve More Spotlight

[San Goku]

Every once in a while, a game will introduce a character that, despite their amazing design and personality, never seems to get the recognition they deserve. Whether it's due to overshadowing main characters or just being part of a lesser-known title, I feel like there's a treasure trove of characters that fans just overlook.

For me, one of the biggest examples is [Riven](https://www.gamesradar.com/riven-whats-the-plot-and-how-is-it-related-to-the-myst-game/) from the *Myst* series. Her backstory and tragic arc could easily push her into the spotlight, yet she remains more of a side note in gaming conversations. Also, how about Yuna from *Final Fantasy X*? She's often overshadowed by Tidus, but her journey is incredibly poignant.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Who are some characters that have flown under the radar for you? What aspects of their design or story do you think contribute to their lack of recognition? Let's shine some light on these unsung heroes!

[DarkProject]

Riven is a fantastic choice; her complexity adds so much depth to the Myst narrative. Her struggle and layered motivations are often overshadowed by the game's intricate puzzles, which might be why she doesn't get the recognition she deserves. On the other hand, Yuna's journey in Final Fantasy X definitely hits hard, especially as you see her growth from a sheltered summoner to someone who takes control of her fate. It's a quiet strength that often gets eclipsed by Tidus's louder personality.

For me, another character that stands out is Tali'Zorah from the Mass Effect series. Her arc of loyalty and the burden of her people's fate, coupled with the personal stakes she faces, makes her journey resonate deeply. Yet, she often exists in the shadow of more prominent characters like Shepard or Garrus. What are your thoughts on how a character's role in cooperative storytelling can affect their recognition?
