the real reason there is no yellow ranger in Kyoryuger.

The official explanation: we didn't want a yellow ranger because we wanted more boys, yellow is a female color, and in a show involving humans defeating dinosaurs, having a lot of girls is weird.

TRUE EXPLANATION: it seems that Toei/Bandai, after a few years, have understood at last that having both yellow AND gold in a same show looked like having the same color in two rangers. After all, Gold is pretty much metallic yellow.
Since the sixth ranger is a Gold ranger, having no main yellow ranger makes sense. Besides, it must be noticed that Gold appears very early in the show, much earlier than usual sixth rangers, and he's pretty much written like a main ranger, more than a sixth. As such, Utchii feels pretty much like a core member of the team. It's even noticeable in the shade of gold he has in his suit : it looks much more yellow than in previous Gold rangers, like Shinkengold, Go-on Gold and Beet Buster, which had a darjker dhade of Gold. Kyoryugold has a light shade of gold, which pretty much looks yellow. It's interesting that he's in the ending credits with the main five, unlike all additional rangers. In a way, Utchii is the yellow ranger of Kyoryuger.
Yout thoughts?

I don't agree. They had no problem having two shades of blue on the team, or a grey and silver that look very similar. And it's nothing to do with the yellow accents on the suits. It was stated in interviews that they first chose to have no Yellow and then added yellow accents to compensate. If Utchy's suit looks more yellow (I can't say I've noticed that), it might also have been planned after the initial decision to have no Yellow.

The real reason is probably just that they needed to improve sales figures after Go-Busters, so wanted only one woman on the team in order to market to boys. The lack of Yellow might just be because it's an obvious visual difference and makes the team stand out. I've also heard the idea suggested that, since the first mech combination is Daigo/Nossan/Amy, Toei and Bandai wanted it to be Red/Blue/Pink rather than Red/Blue/Yellow so as to look different from Go-Busters.

This also seems more plausible. After all, female figure only sell to collectors, not the main audience Toei/Bandai is pandering to. Therefore, an extra male figure means more domestic sales. Gotta keep Bandai happy...

I don't see what's not to believe about the original explanation. All recent Sentai teams have had yellow as a female ranger, the last male one was almost 8 years ago. Most kids watching the show will only know yellow as a girls colour and I wouldn't be surprised if there's an attitude of "I don't want to play as the yellow ranger, that's a girls colour". Plus, like Lazycoconut said, when there's a team with grey and silver on it, I very much doubt yellow and gold being too similar was the issue.

And the bigger issue is still the fact they skipped over having a yellow because they didn't want two girls on the team. We at least eventually got Yayoi making occasional appearances, but I'm very worried that Tokkyuger is going to continue the trend of having the token girl and nothing more.

I still think one of my two guesses would be the reason for Amy's being Pink rather than Yellow. In past series, Bandai has released stuff like hoodies and backpacks for the female Yellow, but not the Pink - so in theory, a Yellow should be more marketable

I also worry about Tokkyuger having just one woman. If it does, I hope she doesn't get hit with the "token girl" stick as hard as poor Amy (I like her, but not always the way she is written or filmed)

What exactly is the "token girl" stick and how was "poor" Amy hit with it?

I don't watch Kyoryuger (the sexist comment about women "not being strong enough" to fight dinos to earn their powers turned me off quite a bit), but I can answer this somewhat.

When there's a "token girl" (i.e. a female character for the sake of having a female character), they are often placed into "traditional" female situations. Damsel in distress, being the "homely" one, mothering the male characters, doing "girly" things, etc. It makes them less of a character in their own right, and more the writers being lazy and going "Oh, yeah, she's a girl, see, she's doing girly things, our characters aren't all male."

None of which happened to Amy at all.

In fact, the writers made fun of it: Amy was placed as bait in a ridiculously intentional damsel-of-distress situation in a scene which makes fun of the trope (and which she literally kicked her way out of, anyway, Persian girl get-up and all). And the episode where they were literally fighting for her was a Souji episode where everyone was competing for themselves and she was traipsing around off-screen having fun on her own.

Whenever there's an RRR situation, she's rarely the one doing the healing. That's either Yayoi's or Ucchi's job. She's either practicing her kicks, fooling around with everyone or idling around reading manga. She's definitely not the "mother"/"older sister" figure.

Grey and Cyan are auxilliary rangers which aren't part of the main toy marketing and only appear occasionally in the show; so the fact that they're similar to Blue and Silver in color isn't a big issue; the main rangers are Red, Black, Blue, Green, Pink and Gold.
Besides, unless I'm wrong, Gokaiger aired two years ago with male yellow rangers appearing like Yellow Lion and Hurricaneyellow, the latter also coming back as Yellow in a direct to video movie airing the same year as Kyoryuger: it's not like kids weren't reminded that Yellow could be a color for male rangers.
