The real OhRanger?

I've read before that OhRanger started out as a show that was pretty straight foward with a old-school yet dramatic feel, even having past sentai writers pitch in for it but then real life events of the time caused the show to change direction.

So I have two questions.

One, what were the actual events happening in Japan that caused the show to change?

..and two, what episodes of the series do people feel are the best example of the show as it was originally intended to be vs. what it became?

The Sarin gas attacks on Tokyo subways are that incident. It happened relatively early on in Ohranger's run, so I'm gonna say we probably didn't even get 10 episodes of what was meant in the original style.

All of it is ashame, the unspeakable human tragedy aside, Ohranger took a really good approach to the Sentai format. I always loved the idea of only introducing the red ranger in the first episode and the character felt like a nice mix of 80's characters with a new and innovative flair.

The Hanshin earthquake has also been cited as a reason for the show's lightening up.

Really, I think the first two episodes reflect what the series was probably going to be like. And those two episodes were pretty cool, IMO.

I hate when world problems affect TV shows.

I still remember the Timeranger/Time Force episode where the helicopter slams into the building. I think it was edited after 911.

Yeh, that was edited out. I actually dont remember ever seeing it though. But that could be cuz depictions of planes hitting buildings never really became prominently important to us till 9/11.

Ive only seen the first 2 eps of Ohranger and the intro of Ohred is by far my favorite of any senshi so far. Its just soo badass.

They definately knew how to bring a Ranger in. The scene of Riki's first henshin and fight just blew me away. Granted this was early on in my non-PRized sentai watching. Everything from Riki telling Bachus off to his actual henshin to the choreography to that BGM version of Action GoGoGo!

It's easy to see how this kid ran the Machine Empire the hell off the planet in ancient times.

But OhRed was an awesome intro as well. I even loved the bit where after the others react to the name "Oh..renjaa?" He just does his pose. Why? Who knows, but it's awesome!

Yeah the pose out of nowhere was just oozing badass.

I loved Riki's civilian form fights aswell I was shocked at some of the stuff he did. I'm assuming he was trained in Martial Arts/Stunt work.

He's still one of my favourite Red Warriors alongside ChangeDragon, Red Flash, Red Mask, Red Falcon, and Red Hawk.
