“The Host” is a 2006 Korean Sci-Fi movie streaming on Hulu. It is categorized as both science fiction and horror. since the movie was released almost 20 years ago, it can be considered a classic. This is an award-winning film; awards include Best Film at the Asian Film Awards and the Blue Dragon Film Awards. ♦ It’s Just a River. Why Should Anybody Care? In the opening scene of “The Host”, an American military pathologist (a “jerk”) orders his Korean assistant to dispose of toxic formaldehyde by simply pouring it down the drain. The assistant says “There are rules for disposing of toxic waste. Pouring toxic chemicals down the drain is against the rules. Also .. it will flow into the Han River.” The American tells his assistant: “Just do what I said!” (NOTE: At this point, less than 15 minutes into the film, the angry viewer of this Kdrama (that would be me) is seriously wondering why the assistant didn’t pour a bottle of that formaldehyde down the guy’s

This movie basically turned Bae Doona into a star, It gave her opportunities in Japan and Hollywood.

Man, that scene where Hyun-seo calls her dad from the sewers still gets me every time. This movie is a rollercoaster of emotions - one minute you're laughing at the Park family's antics, the next you're terrified of the monster, and then you're bawling your eyes out when they're reunited. It's a testament to the acting and the story that they can make you care so much about these characters.

I watched this movie before, The little girl died and the dad adopted the little boy

This movie is more than just a monster flick, it's a wake-up call! The way the government covered up everything and tried to blame the creature for the virus? Scary how real that feels. And don't even get me started on the whole Agent Yellow thing. Like they actually thought dumping more chemicals into the river would solve anything! This movie predicted the future, I swear.

Whoa, this is way before Doona Bae became a global superstar! It's cool to see her in such an early role. I loved her in "Sense8" and "Cloud Atlas," but it's always interesting to see how actors develop over time. This makes me want to watch "The Host" with fresh eyes, just to see her performance knowing what a powerhouse she'd become. Plus, it adds another layer to the film - a reminder that even the biggest stars start somewhere.

The creature design in "The Host" is fantastic! It's not your typical Hollywood monster - it's grotesque, slimy, and surprisingly agile. The way it moves through the water and attacks its prey is genuinely creepy. Plus, there's something oddly sympathetic about it. After all, it's just a product of human pollution. This movie made me rethink what I find scary in a monster.

The Host messed me up for life! Seriously, I used to love calamari and octopus fritters, but after seeing that movie... nope. There's just something about the way the creature moved, all those tentacles and that slimy skin. It totally ruined those delicious cephalopods for me. I know it's probably not rational, but every time I see calamari on a menu, I can't help but picture that giant monster from the Han River. Guess I'll stick to shrimp and salmon from now on.
