The first big streaming show of 2026 will be HBO’s Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, set to launch this January. It’s set n the world of Game of Thrones, 72 years after House of the Dragon but 100 years before the original series, and based on George R R Martin’s “Dnnk and Egg” stories. Sir Duncan The Tall started out as just a lowly nobody in Flea Bottom (a place as bad as its name would suggest) until he was taken in by an aging knight who agreed to teach him how to fight and joust. Just before the old man passed, he knighted Dunk as Sir Dunk, and now the boy has a chance to prove himself. He wants to start by entering a local jousting tournament, but lacked a squire….until the day he met Egg, a quirky kid with a shaven head. Dunk would rather have any other squire than Egg, but he can’t get rid of him. I’m honestly more pumped for this than I ever was for either season of House of the Dragon. Why? Because Dragon felt like more of the same. This is something new — a Game of Thrones tale that has nothing […]

I stayed with Game of Thrones even through the last season, and I still want more stories from this world. I read the Dunk and Egg novellas long ago, and I always wished HBO would adapt them. They show a warmer side of Westeros. I like seeing how ordinary people live, something the main show rarely focused on. The trailer made me feel hopeful.

As a long-time fan, I am excited because this feels closer to the older GRRM writing style. The world is the same, but the tone looks lighter, and I think that helps. Not every story in Westeros needs dragons and thrones. Sometimes the smaller stories show more humanity. I will follow every episode the moment it comes out.

I enjoyed House of the Dragon, but I always felt it lacked heart. This show might give me that missing part. Dunk looks like someone I can support easily. Egg looks like he brings humor. GOT fans like me already know how dark Westeros can be, so seeing something less intense is a nice change.I followed all the behind-the-scenes news when Game of Thrones aired, and I always wondered why they never showed more of the common people. This show finally gives that perspective. Dunk coming from Flea Bottom is already a strong hook for me. I want to see more of Westeros outside the highborn circles.

This trailer made me smile. Dunk looks like someone who wants to do the right thing but keeps getting pushed around. Egg looks like trouble but in a good way. Their dynamic seems natural. I don’t follow every Game of Thrones spin-off, but this one feels like a break from the usual heavy tone. I want something easier to watch, and this might be it.

The main GOT series became too heavy for me near the end, and House of the Dragon did not help. This looks lighter, not in a silly way, but in a more human way. I like when the goals are simple. Win a tournament. Find a place where you belong. Keep going even if things are rough. Those themes feel honest.
