Fore note: This article is written by a hardcore gamer, and the target group that this article is meant for is the heavy casual to hardcore gamer. This article is for those that own a decent computer, a current generation gaming console with a library exceeding 15 games, and has a DVD player or decent multimedia center. If you do not fall into this group then some of these statements may not be true to you. However I do feel that your course of actions should be the same as I advise for the hardcore gamer, though you may have less of a reason to agree with me (Mainly in the “Less Focus On Games†section).

The more and more information that is released about the next generation of consoles, mainly about the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, the more and more I realize that gaming, as we know it, is dying. For years I have been an extremely devout gamer. I own one thousand, four hundred, fifty-six games. I have owned a NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced, DS, Genesis, Sega CD, 32x, Gamegear, Nomad, Saturn, Dreamcast, Turbografx 16, Playstation, Playstation 2, and various PC's. I check various gaming related sites constantly throughout the day such as IGN, Gamasutra, Gamefaqs, Gamespot, Penny-Arcade, etc. When any one of my friends has a real gaming question, I'm the one that is called. And it's this vast experience and knowledge that I have that brings me to believe that, Microsoft and Sony are getting ready to bring about the downfall of gamers as we know it. The Main reason for this statement is that these companies have displayed a complete lack of care or concern for the future of gamers or the health of the markets. They have shown hypocrisy and childishness. They have show greed and concentration on defeating an opponent, rather then doing what is right. I will break this down into several sections just to help everyone digest....

Very well written article!! Seems to me like Microsoft and Sony are acting like a pair of attention whores!! :laugh:

But Sony may've made a point about their PlayStation "not being a games console". And the PSP seems like an incredibly nifty gadget. Especially the UMDs that come in their little protective cases which could stop the disc from being scratched (which could mean less freezing and skipping about when watching a movie). Something DVDs should've come in in the first place.

I've not been playing video games for a long time, and I'm worried that my interest in video games could fade away.

Here's one thing he forgot to add..

PORN!!!!

Yes!! Most games being released on PlayStation 2 and XBox are looking for a wimpy excuse to have an 18 Certificate stuck on them. So far we had.. Grand Theft Auto this, Grand Theft Auto that, BMX XXX, Lesure Suit Larry, a PlayBoy Mansion game, The Getaway, BLAH BLAH BLAH... Everybody seems to think that the 18 Certificate is "cool" or a "seal of approval". It's not, it just means that this game has sexual or violent content and you're not allowed to buy this game unless you're over 18. But then there are sad people who think violence, drugs and porn is cool and they want to see it in a video game? PUH LEASE!!!

Personally, I seem to like Nintendo and Sega more. They seem to be more original. But the games on PlayStation aren't bad too, and I loves meself a good game of Tekken!!

And the Nintendo Revolution sounds like fun too!!

Football games are going overboard man, although the racing games, they're some good one's such as "BurnOut Revenge." My pet peeve with those type of games is why buy or play a sport's game like Madden or Basket Ball where you can just go outside and play the damn sport yourself? I guess this is the exact same situation back in the Victorian Era, where they just slapped in some art work. They didn't put pride or responsibilty in it, but that's a whole other story :laugh:
