Terminator 2's Alternate Ending

No it means T3 and Salvation and TSCC would have never happend.

Or perhaps Judgment Day is pushed even farther since people didn't buy into the machines and went instead to use them in nonmilitary purposes?

An alternate Judgment could come up when people depend too much on machines and another John Connor born from a woman named Sarah Conner and a father named Kyle Reese which are descendants of the originals or perhaps different people with the same name leads the resistance. That's Terminator 3 and 4 , but with more advanced tech than in the first resistance of the canon timeline.

I'm glad they went with the theatrical ending. The "happy ending" goes way overboard with the cheesiness -- the age makeup, the "future fashions," John becoming Mr. Smith Goes To Washington -- and would have dated a movie that's otherwise almost completely timeless.

The ambiguous ending is cool because it lets their "new" future be the one that really happened; the reality that we're living now.

^^This. This ending is a nice window into the director's thoughts and such, but it's just not the right ending for the film, which is otherwise almost perfect. The "future fashions" are a common failing in movies showing a near-future, as 20 years from now, I'm pretty sure people would kill themselves if they were found wearing the clothes depicted.

Except the one dude in a tanktop, orange overalls and Blue-blockers. He looked pretty comfortable with himself.
